In hopes of standardizing navigation, specifically intra-state browsing, across WP:USRD and its subprojects, this page has been created to establish guidelines for browsing across the USRD umbrella. In the event that a state WikiProject's standards conflict with those given below, the standards noted below take precedence.

[edit] Type codes

By default, three types are enabled for all states: Interstate, U.S. route and state highway. To generate the correct type, the following should be entered into "previous_type" or "next_type", where applicable:

Interstate for Interstates
US for U.S. routes
2-letter state abbreviation for state highways

In some states, redirects exist for state highway types but making more redirects is not necessary nor recommended.

Precedence for browsing is as follows:

Interstate	→	U.S. route	→	State highway
I-58	→	US 58	→	Route 58

[edit] Inclusion and exclusion

Bannered routes (such as West Virginia Route 10 Alternate) should not be included in the browse. Suffixed routes (such as New York State Route 252A) should. Use the "spur_of/spur_type" parameter for bannered routes instead.
