Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub removal

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize the process of stub removal, that is the removal of {{…stub}} tags from articles which are now large enough to be no longer considered stubs. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list below.

[edit] Scope

  • Remove stubs!!!

[edit] Directions

  • Sign any untaken section that you wish to work on.
  • It's preferred that you sign the header, as this will show up in the box so others will know who is working on that section.
  • Go through the list. Remove the stub tag if you feel the article is not a stub.
  • Mark edit summaries as major per Help:Minor edit.
  • Please place Stub removal: [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub removal|You can help!]] in your edit summary.
  • When you have finished a section, remove it.

[edit] Reading the Stub markings

  • isNotStub: The page exceeds the size requirements for WP:STUB
Sometimes the article is still a stub based on the topic it covers. Please keep that in mind.
Other tasks: If the article is complete but does not meet the Manual of Style, Be Bold and wikify it!
  • isStub: The page lacks content judged by the size of the article. The only reason it shows up in this list is that the stub template needs to be unsubstitute'd. ie, {{stub}} instead of {{subst:stub}}.
  • the number in the ()'s is the word count. ie, isNotStub(1000) means the article has 1000 words.

[edit] Criteria

A stub is an article that is too short to be genuinely useful, but not so short as to be useless. In general, it must be long enough to at least define the article's title, which generally means 3 to 10 short sentences. Note that even a longer article on a complicated topic may be a stub; conversely, a short article on a topic of narrow scope may not be a stub. However, in reality, many articles which are labelled as stubs are much longer than that. You can help Wikipedia by removing inappropriate stub notices. General rules are:

  • Ignore templates (If the article is filled with templates, its still a stub. Remove only if it meets criteria minus the templates.)
  • Ignore infoboxes (Same as templates.)
  • If the article is clearly a list, it is not a stub (in this case put a {{expand list}} tag at the top)

Note:To the right of the link it may say: "isStub" . Please check for a subst'd stub tag. If it is subst'd, please put the stub tag in correctly.

See also: WP:STUB for more information on stubs.

[edit] Java Script Tool

Thanks to GeorgeMoney this project now has a JaveScript tool to assist in removing the stubs. Remember it is your responsibility to check that the article really is not a stub before you press that button!

[edit] To do list

Please mark as 100% complete when the sub page has no more stubs.
