Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports facilities

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

First, an important note for everyone to remember:

A few Wikipedians have gotten together to make some suggestions about how we might organize data in articles about sports team listings. These are only suggestions, things to give you focus and to get you going, and you shouldn't feel obligated in the least to follow them. But if you don't know what to write or where to begin, following the below guidelines may be helpful. Actually, we just want you to write articles!

[edit] Structure

There should be an individual entry for each stadium, arena or other facility where sport (either at a professional or collegiate level) takes place. This was originally envisaged for all American stadiums and arenas, but easily applies to any sporting facility worldwide (this can include auto or horse racetracks, dragstrips, cricket grounds, etc.).

At a minimum, an entry for an individual sports franchise should include the following:

  • A paragraph stating what the facility is, where it is and what kinds of events it hosts (if it is an arena, include concerts where applicable).
  • A list outlining what teams make use of the facility (when applicable) and their professional leagues (when applicable) or, in the case of colleges, their Conference (when applicable).
  • A history of the facility, outlining the planning and construction, name changes (including new or changing sponsors), famous moments (including any championship events), closure and demolition of the facility.
  • Any external links to official web sites of the facility.
  • A table, similar to the Countries or U.S. States tables. The information displayed would include (in this order, ideally):
    • The current, full name of the arena.
    • Any nicknames (i.e., "The Vet" underneath "Veterans' Stadium" in Phildelphia)
    • A picture if possible (remember not to use copyrighted images)
    • The actual location of the facility (i.e., "Arlington, Texas" for the "Ballpark in Arlington", not "Dallas, Texas")
    • The date opened (or just year when not known
    • The date closed (when applicable)
    • The capacity. If the facility is only used for one type of event, please use the format of Capacity: 20,000. If used for multiple types of events with different capacities, please break the information down into a bulleted list.
    • Dimensions (when known). For baseball stadiums, this would include as many outfield dimensions known as possible. For other facilities where the playing field is equal from one to the next, please include the overall size dimensions of the facility (when known).
    • Current Ownership (when known). For multiple owners, please break it down into a bulleted list.
    • Current Management (when known). For multiple managers, please break it down into a bulleted list.
    • Architects (when known). For multiple architects, please break it down into a bulleted list.
