This is a mini-project devoted entirely to the problem of welding or stitching panoramas for use in Wikipedia.

This is a poor example; note the vertical bars, especially in the sky. The failure to crop out white space at the edges is comparatively minor.

Note also the extreme distortion of perspective in the second example. Such may be quite tolerable when the pan is viewed with a special viewer (e.g., QuickTime VR); however it may not make the best choice for illustrating an article.
