[edit] Priorities

[edit] Pioneers

  • Need to be started:
    • John Breitenbusher: if notable (only one google hit), to be linked from Breitenbush, Oregon. Page 26 of this pdf says his name was "John Breitenbush" according to Oregon Geographic Names. (see my note. Katr67 18:48, 13 December 2006 (UTC))
    • William H. Rector: Champoeg settler, 1847 state legislator, part of the first Joel Palmer expedition, cofounder of the Salem woolen mill, 1861 Commissioner of Indian Affairs, railway entrenprenuer. [1]
    • Colonel James Taylor: Astoria settler, assistant commissary to General Joel Palmer, first territorial treasurer. [2]
    • Elijah White: I assumed there was already one for him. Led wagon trains over the trail, "Indian" sub agent, seemed to have a power complex from what I've read researching other people/events/places. Methodist missionary that didn't get along with Jason Lee.
    • Felix Hathaway: Helped build the Star of Oregon, liberty ship named after him too. Could even link to Joe Gale.
    • Thomas J. Hubbard: Helped build the Star of Oregon, not namesake for the town. Tried for murder at Ft. William in 1835. Blacksmith/gunsmith by trade, also at Champoeg in 1843.
    • Gustavus Hines, Reverend at the Methodist Mission, arrived 1840 on Lausanne.
    • Daniel Waldo, slave owner in Oregon, father of John B. & William, both judges. Dad may have been a judge too, Waldo Hills named for the family. Part of provisional legislature.
    • Alvin T. Smith, early Forest Grove settler, helped start Tualatin Academy, early postmaster, prov. government.[3]
    • Note: Everyone left on this list is not listed in the Portrait and Biographical Record of the Willamette Valley Oregon, 1903, so that book as a reference would not work. But is good for people after the original set of pioneers.

[edit] Politicians

  • Margaret Carter, current senator and first African American woman elected to the Legislative Assembly (1984)
  • Avel Gordly, current senator and first African American woman elected to the Oregon Senate (1996)
  • William McCoy (Oregon politician), first African American elected to the Oregon House (1972)
