[edit] Resources

  • Oregon Blue Book City Governments Directory-Mostly profiles, but has elevation data (missing from a lot of city articles), has accurate and current website addresses for city governments, and some basic information that may be helpful for infoboxes.

[edit] Finding city articles needing attention

Some Wikipedia lists and articles relating to cities, villages, townships, and CDPs in Oregon. These should prove useful for finding articles in need of clean-up, creation, and/or categorization:

There are a lot of red links in there!

[edit] Images needed

Also useful, is to add photographs, maps, and other images to existing city articles. A priority should be on the larger cities outside of Portland, as there aren't as many (or no) photographs of them. Location maps would need to be created for new cities, and flags and city seals ought to be tracked down.

City seals and flags often have a unique copyright status, and permission for use or use of reproductions must be obtained first from the city in question before use in Wikipedia. A note that permission was received should accompany a seal copyright tag on the image's description page.

Currently, these are the cities and other government entities that have made it clear that they would not like their their seals/logos used in any way on Wikipedia:

(This list is repeted below in "More on infoboxes"). These seals/logos are off-limits for the for use on Wikipedia.

Just taking images off government websites, then uploading them to Wikipedia is not acceptable without permission.

[edit] City Infoboxes

City info boxes go a long way towards making a city's page look nice. When the article grows bigger, they can hold info otherwise devoted to space on the page. While most Oregon cities do not have city boxes, the larger cities are starting to get them.

In case anyone would like to add them, it would be appreciated. Cities smaller than Portland use the exact infobox used for Salem's article. With the exception of Portland, all cities in Oregon should have this box at this time.

[edit] More on Infoboxes

I have tried to find the cities that already have infoboxes. I have three lists, the first list are cities that have both infoboxes AND flags/seals:

Cities contacted for seal/logo use, but declined:

Currently, these are the cities and other government entities that have made it clear that they would not like their their seals/logos used in any way on Wikipedia. Until permission is granted through future negotiations, these seals/logos are off-limits:

(This list is repeated above in "images").

Cities with infoboxes, but no flags/seals:

Cities with infoboxes that need to be updated to be in line with the standards of this project:

These are what I have found. If more are discovered or added, list them on here, then we know where we need to concentrate our efforts. PDXblazers 04:52, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

I try to at least add several infoboxes a day, and will be updating as I go! Ajbenj
