[edit] Infoboxes
- {{Infobox Town MA}} - use for towns
- Should other New England states use the same infobox? If so, should it change to "Infobox Town New England"?
- Why not use Infobox Community - see Harvard, MA for an example. John 02:01, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
- That doesn't seem to allow for some New England/Massachusetts-specific information, like town meeting format, etc. --AaronS 02:14, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
- I see. Maybe we can get them to add a government box with a free form "type" string to the Community one? Or would you expect more New England specific stuff? John 02:42, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
- I have been using {{Infobox City}} for some cities in MA and it works nicely. --Jared
- I heavily updated this infobox to contain more information and make it look like the Infobox City one. It still contains fields for local government and also has the feature that unused fields don't show up at all. See Westborough, Massachusetts and Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. --Capital R 06:23, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
- Excellent work on adding the templates. --AaronS 05:53, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- That doesn't seem to allow for some New England/Massachusetts-specific information, like town meeting format, etc. --AaronS 02:14, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
- Why not use Infobox Community - see Harvard, MA for an example. John 02:01, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
- I explained/complained in Action discussion that "settled" should link to an explanation of settlement as an event --something like settlement (event), what is dated by the settlement date?-- rather than to a general article on Massachusetts. I am too new to find the template for "Settled: yyyy, Incorporated: yyyy" much less its discussion. 64.48.73.24 00:48, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- I just converted all towns to also use the Infobox City template for consistency. The Infobox City template has been recently modified to be general enough to handle all of the fields in the old Infobox Town MA template, so it made no sense to keep a duplicate template. --CapitalR 04:47, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- {{Infobox City}} - use for all cities and towns
- {{Infobox Mass Town Govt}} - Used for all cities & towns. It gathers information about the town, county, state, and federal elected officials. There's no reason why it couldn't include more info. I first applied it to Shrewsbury, Massachusetts as a model.—Mark Adler (markles) 21:38, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
- {{Infobox Mass Area Code}} - Used for all area codes within Massachusetts. It contains all pertinent information and some nice maps of the town that are covered by each code. --Capital R 06:23, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
- {{Infobox Mass Prison}} - Used for all jails and prisons in Massachusetts (including county/local jails). I applied it to three to start with. --Capital R 06:23, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Switch to Infobox City
Template: Infobox City can do everything that Infobox Town MA can do. We should start converting the pages to that. --AaronS 14:19, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- I would disagree. This may work for the cities, but it seems like it would be insufficient for the towns; for example, it doesn't appear to allow for selectmen. Sahasrahla 16:31, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- It does now. I just converted all towns; no information was lost in the converstion as the Infobox City template now is general enough to handle just about anything.--CapitalR 04:49, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Maps
In the Infobox Template:Infobox City, there is a place for an image showing the town's place in the state. Can someone advise the rest of us on creating such images?
- Yes. I just added an image file showing the outlines of Massachusetts towns and cities. When you add the Townbox to an article, download this image, fill in the town's borders with pure red color (using a program like Photoshop or any other that can handle .png files), and then upload the file with the name "Ma_towns_TOWNNAMEHERE.png" replacing "TOWNNAMEHERE" with the name of the town.
- I got this image from a Massachusetts government web site, so I assume that it is public domain.--AaronS 16:32, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
