[edit] Introduction

This is an idea to start a project to look at the maritime history of Hull, as it was a very significant port in English history and articles are few in number and low in depth and quality. The project would aim to add a wider collection of articles and to improve the existing ones, possibly starting with articles created by User:El Scorcho about Thomas Wilson Sons & Co.. If enough people were interested then exisitng articles could be improved then new ones systematically chosen for creation, with the long term aim being to create a portal made up of featured articles.

[edit] Scope

The primary goal of this project is to provide a comprehenisve account of an important time from Britain's maritime history, as shown through one of the most successful ports, Hull. By creating a series of articles and working on them until they are featured status through collaboration we can create a portal that details all the aspects that were part of making Hull a great port and how shipping was developing in Britain with the advent of Steam.

[edit] Parentage

This project is an offshoot from specific Maritime History of Britain.

[edit] Participants

It would be hoped that at least 10 people would sign up to this project to form a team and see the goals through into completion.

  1. Dr.Rock 72
  2. Seashanty - "I jig for money!"
  3. Pirate Jon
  4. El Scorcho
  5. Mr. Lizard

[edit] Structure

We will establish guidelines for selection of articles, then work on adding articles that are 'wikified' and offer a consistent balanced account that is not esoteric in nature. The talk pages will be used to field discussion and debate where needed and the project members will work together to avoid arguments.

Use of the Cite.php system for references across all articles covered by the wikiproject is advised for consistency.

UK English will be used for spelling and grammar as the subject concerned is British and it is most appropriate.

[edit] Log

In order to track all project progress in one place a log page will be kept. Users can add what they have done and date and sign so we can judge progress towards achieving goals see what work has been done and what work is still to do.

[edit] Goals

  1. To make the main articles Featured Status
  2. To add many new articles to give a fuller idea of Hull's maritime history.
  3. To add images and make pages as detailed and insightful as possible.
  4. To generate enough high quality articles to create a portal.

[edit] Projects

  1. Wilson family members
  2. Fill in all red links in existing articles
  3. Hull based ships and shipping firms
  4. Improving status in other entries, such as Hull and John Ellerman

[edit] Tasks

  1. Add infoboxes to biogrpahies and individual ships
  2. Link all the articles to the project
  3. Choose a scope in years and decide the selction process for creating new articles.

[edit] Adopt an Article

To see all the articles through into full fruition it would be helpful if users chose a particular particle to focus on and monitor, adding to it and ensuring other additions are valid and so on. Not eclusively working on one article, but giving one extra attention to get it up to scratch.

[edit] Other Subpages

[edit] Templates

A template for the project should be created and added to all articles to link them. It would also be good for all involved users to add the template to their own talk pages to signal their involvement.
