WikiProject Golfers
[edit] Scope
Hello all. So this project is aiming to improve as many pages on pro golfers, alive or not, as possible. One way we could start out is by creating and inserting infoboxes into as many pages as possible. Template:Infobox golfer Another goal is just generally trying to improve the articles themselves.
1. Adding more information about wins - highlights or lowpoints
2. Adding more information about college careers or amateur careers
3. Adding more information about the golfers themselves and their bios (if some people think that this is unencyclopedic, I dont entirely disagree so thats up for debate.
4. Post career for the old guys - such as if they became broadcasters, or things like that.
5. Sponsorships who they are sponsored by. This would mostly be golf companies, like which clubs to they use, and maybe significant commercials they have been in
- We should not be providing free advertising for their sponsors. I have removed it from the template. Osomec 15:30, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

I've been doing this for a year without the hassle of setting up a project. I am unhappy with the template and with the general U.S. centric tendency both the template and this page suggest.I sorted that out. - DakPowers - Working on mainly
Nationwide TourChampions Tour right now. - Hokeman - Have created about 170 golfer biographies and done substantial work on about 20 existing ones. Plan to wrap up that phase soon. I am going to start a page (Autumn 2006) listing all PGA Tour events that are now defunct (and explain what exactly became of them) like the Ardmore Open, St. Charles Open, Anheuser-Busch Classic, Pensacola Open, and many others that will tie into a lot of work that others have done. Hopefully, it can eliminate a lot of redlinks on golfer pages by redirecting those dustbin tournaments into this page. Need your help developing concepts for this article. (Prototype under development near bottom on my User page).
§JDGOLF 03:19, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Would like to help. Would like to catalogue each player's major championship stats into something like a baseball box score. Would also like to track a player's world ranking through the years to provide "solid" data on where his best years were and when a career rose, declined, peaked, etc. New to editing. Advice? Comments?
- Crunch 21:04, 4 March 2007 (UTC) - Working mostly on LPGA players, but doing some on all pros and amateurs. Encourage template-creators to think a little more inclusionary, not just about PGA Tour.
[edit] Goals
- Look at the scope section above
[edit] Projects
- We could start out by doing golfers currently on the PGA Tour.
- More specifically, start out by trying to compile every golfer's wins on the PGA Tour
- I think all the major golf editors - Golfcam, Osomec, Tewapack, Hawkestone, Dakpowers, Catchpole and others - should select one of our golfer bio's and try to get it to FA status. I just finished collaborating with some guys to get Oceanic whitetip shark to FA status. My thought is that it should probably be one of the great icons of the sport like Nicklaus, Player or Palmer rather than someone whose story is still largely being written like Tiger. If we go back too far – like Hogan, Snead or Nelson – it's too hard to research. Your comments please.--Hokeman 19:48, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Tasks
- Any article about Golfers is good.
- One way to go through the golfers is to just go down the List of golfers or, in the alternative, the World Rankings List.
- Another way to is to go by previous tournaments and their winners.
[edit] Templates
- We have an infobox: Template:Infobox golfer
- We have template message for pro golfers: Template:WikiProject Golfers
- We have a userbox: Template:User WikiProject Golfers
