WikiProject Filmmaking is a WikiProject which aspires to comprehensively cover and standardize articles involving the technologies and disciplines involved in all stages of professional filmmaking.
Contents |
[edit] Scope
Our focus is on all aspects and departments involved in the making of a film from development along to release.
Specifically:
- equipment and resources used in the process of filmmaking
- jobs frequently involved in filmmaking
- technical concepts and processes used with or developed for films
- commonly practiced techniques directly applicable to film work
- companies and suppliers directly concerned with the film industry
[edit] Topics explicitly outside of the project scope
- individual film titles - see Wikipedia:WikiProject Films
- filmmakers or other people - see Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography
- fictional characters, places, or events - see Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory/Culture
- critical theory of film - see Wikipedia:WikiProject Critical Theory
- places (excepting those exclusively used for filmmaking, such as a studio) - see Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory/Geographical
- how-to guides or manuals - this should be coordinated through Wikibooks:Movie Making Manual
[edit] Goals
Specifically, we are interested in:
- standardizing the articles as much as possible through infoboxes, templates, and consistent terminology
- providing verifiable citable references for all pertinent information
- coordinating our work using guidelines, recommendations, and review
- acting as the focal point of discussion regarding filmmaking articles
- creating consensus on stylistic issues
- engaging industry professionals - preferably from a wide range of fields and geographic regions
- removing systematic bias - such as excessive or exclusive focus on a particular region's industry or a certain type of filmmaking (i.e. features, television, commercials, music videos, shorts, etc.)
- welcoming anyone with a serious interest in the topics
Oh, and most importantly,
- Finding someone with a better design sense to help make this page look better! :)
[edit] Announcements
- The Cinema Collaboration of the Week currently includes the article on primary topic Film as a nominated collaboration. As the root topic for both WikiProject Films and WikiProject Filmmaking, it's been suggested that the two projects work in a combined effort to improve the article to featured status. If you are in favor, please support the nomination!
- B movie has been promoted to Featured article status! Another thorough job from DCGeist, who worked as the primary editor and brought the article from this to its current state.
- Editors willing to "adopt" GA-Class and A-Class articles in order to guide them through peer review and/or FAC are wanted. We've been steadily adding new featured articles and want more. These articles are deemed to be the closest in their current state to reaching featured status, and thus are low(er)-hanging fruits for the picking.
- Bad news -
both Panavision andWGA screenwriting credit system are in danger of being demoted from featured status, and have each been added to featured article review. The main problem is the lack of inline citations. If you can contribute in any way to improving these articles, your immediate help will be well appreciated. - Panavision has been reclassified as a Featured Article. Woo-hoo!
- Bad news - B movie has been set for featured article review. Please join the review process to save the Featured Article status.
[edit] Articles
- You can find a complete list of articles tagged by the project at Category:WikiProject Filmmaking articles.
- Also you can take a look at the bot search result feed User:AlexNewArtBot/CinemaSearchResult tracking down recently created film and filmmaking-related articles. The feed is shared with Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/New articles. You can put the feed to whatever place you want by using {{subst:User:AlexNewArtBot/Announcement|Cinema}}.
[edit] Participants
Please feel free to add your name if you wish to help out, you can also put the tag {{User WikiProject Filmmaking}} on your user page. Please also list any particular fields within the project that most interest you; we may create departments to coordinate work in fields with significant numbers of interested editors.

[edit] Open Tasks
[edit] Project notice template
Place the {{WikiProject Filmmaking}} template on the Talk: pages of all relevant articles. Please add to the talk pages of any relevant articles you see missing them.
[edit] Assessment
Assess all articles listed at Category:Unassessed Filmmaking articles. Don't forget you can assess articles when you add the project notice! See the Assessment Department for more details on how to do this.
[edit] Requested articles, images, and cleanup
You can request or create articles and images at our Requests subpage. Articles with cleanup templates are periodically listed by a bot.
[edit] To do list
We have a to do list which is transcluded onto the sidebar. Please also feel free to update it as fit.
[edit] Featured articles
Help us bring all of our articles up to featured article status - this is our paramount and ultimate goal. Good target articles include A-Class articles and GA-Class articles, but you can bring any article to featured status or even write one from scratch expressly for the purpose. Peer review often is a good step prior to jumping into the nomination pool. Also see featured article guidelines for an idea of what the project is looking for.
[edit] Collaboration
Our current collaboration is Filmmaking.
Our last collaboration, 35 mm film, has since become a featured article!
