The California County Route WikiProject

[edit] Scope

This WikiProject is looking to include all active county roads in California. These roads are usually designated with a letter-number combonation (ex: G4) and are usually signed with an oblong pentagon shield that features orange lettering on a blue background. A list of current California County Routes can be found here: List of California County Routes. All currently active California County Routes are worthy of article (no deleted or unconstructed routes please).

If you so chose you can add {{Project U.S. Roads West}} to your user page.

[edit] Structure

Now on to the important stuff.

Each article should start with a short 1-4 sentence description of the route, including the full route name highlighted, length, county(s) and/or region as well as any common use names highlighted (ex: Almaden Expressway).

[edit] Route names

Each route article should be named for the full route. The format is as follows, County Route XX (California) and example would be County Route G2 (California). Each common and full county name eg:Santa Clara County Route G2 can then be placed in the article intro along with any colloquial names.

[edit] Route summary

Continue the article giving a physical description of the route, its width, type of road, directional path, etc... starting in either the south or the west depending on if it is a nominally north-south or east-west route.

[edit] History and legislative status

This section should include when the road was designated, a brief description of any legal definitions that the route no longer adheres to (ex: G8 no longer zig zags along several side streets in Almaden Valley but rather has a much more direct connection to Almaden Expressway now) *also see Lawrence Expressway's Legislative section for examples.

Also include any historical facts, (e.g. S80 runs the route of US 80 and is part of the De Anza Historical Trail etc...)

[edit] Landmarks and points of interest

Using the following format list any points of interest that exist along the route.

  • Landmark A
  • Landmark B

[edit] Major cities

List any major cities located along the route in the following fashion

The following should be included at the end of ALL articles (linked of course).

[edit] Category

Category:California County Routes

After creating an article please visit the List of California County Routes and add the route to the list under the county(s) that it runs though. *If the road runs through mulitple counties do not forget to create the named redirects and list them as well*. All counties on the list are to be placed alphabetically and the routes alphabetically under the counties and then numerically (ex G3, G4, J1)

[edit] Infobox

All articles will eventually start with text similar to the following text with each line changed to correspond to the route in question. Note this should be the first text on any county route in California page:

{{Infobox_CA_Co |
  highway_name      = County Route XX |
  marker_image      = [[Image:XX County Route XX CA.svg|80px|XX County XX]]|
  alternate_name    = (Alternate name)|
  length            = XX [[mile]]s |
  direction         = South/North or West/East |
  starting_terminus = (Starting Junction) in (City) |
  major_junctions = (Major Junctions and shields if applicable)|
  ending_terminus   = (Ending junction) in (City)|
  cities = (Major cities route traverses)|
  established       = (Year established) |
  system = (County highway) or (other) |
}}

[edit] Enjoy

Have fun with this. Some of these may be local routes to you. Don't hesistate to let us know something only locals know about these roads. They are the true backroads network of California and are gateways to some of the state's most quirky, unique and ultimately untouched regions.
