Welcome to WikiProject Balzac, which is dedicated to producing a comprehensive collection of well-written articles about prolific nineteenth century French novelist and playwright Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850) and the over 100 novels, plays, and tons of characters of the La Comédie humaine

  1. To organize all Balzac-related articles into a category entitled "Honoré de Balzac"
  2. To write comprehensive articles in keeping with the best examples of the Wikipedia content standards regarding each of the novels of Balzac, improving stubs or incomplete articles to well-written, academically verifiable, full-length articles on the novels and plays, films generated from these works, the author himself, his wife, and notable characters within his oeuvre.
  3. To write articles on each of his 100 novels and plays, listing characters, summarizing their plot, their impact on future authors and reference in later works.

Plays:
Articles regarding Balzac's plays should be titled by their original French title, and rendered as Play title in French (play)

Novels:
Articles regarding Balzac's novels should be titled by their original French title. Should be Novel title in french (novel)

English titles redirecting to original French titles
Variant titles of Balzac's works in English and alternative misspellings without diacritical or accent marks should serve as redirects to the original title of the novel. For instance: Colonel Chabert should redirect to Le Colonel Chabert (novel).

Characters from the novels or plays:
Articles regarding notable characters that appear in Balzac's novels and plays should be titled by their original French name. Should be Name of Character in original (character).

Films made from the novels or plays:
Articles regarding films made from Balzac's novels or plays should be titled in the name the film bears in the country where it was first released, and in the format Film title (film). If there is more than one film made from the novel, it should be titled in the format Film title (1993 film)

Novels and plays: In the article regarding the novel or play, we should start with a pro forma introduction:

Le Colonel Chabert (English: Colonel Chabert) is an 1832 novel by French novelist and playwright Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850) and included in his series of novels (or Roman-fleuve) known as La Comédie humaine (The Human Comedy) which parodies and depicts French society in the period of the Restoration and the July Monarchy (1815-1848).


If the novel/play was made into a film, add to the introduction paragraph something similar to the following example:

This novel/play was adapted for the 1994 film Colonel Chabert directed by Yves Angelo.

Films In the article regarding a film derived or adapted from the novel or play, we should start with a pro forma introduction:

Le Colonel Chabert (English: Colonel Chabert) is an 1994 French film directed by Yves Angelo and starring Gérard Depardieu, Fanny Ardant and Fabrice Luchini. It is derived from the 1832 novel Le Colonel Chabert by French novelist and playwright Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850).

Each article regarding a novel or play should have its first external link be to the complete online compilation of his works by Project Gutenberg located at http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~spok/metabook/humancomedy.html on the Carnegie Mellon University website.

Following would be the link from that website to the text of the novel that is the subject of the article. Often hosted on University of Pennsylvania webspace.

Also, if there are notable criticisms or form of cliff notes to the work, or academic work regarding the novel online, they can be referenced next.
