WikiVille

WikiVille is an educational project begun in 2005 designed to encourage secondary-school students to become familiar with open-source websites.

Originating in the Bolton (UK) Teaching and Learning Centre, the project involved educators from both sides of the Atlantic in assembling a framework. In February 2006 a MediaWiki website was set up, publicised around schools in several countries.

The site's "About" page says it is for "young people, whose mission it is to paint a picture of life for them in their part of town". Over 300 people had registered in the first three months. Contributions refer to schools and other places in the United Kingdom, Spain, United States, Asia, and Australia.
