From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
WikiDot is a wiki engine based on Java script and XML. Currently it is only used within the wikifarm of WikiDot.com [1]. But an Open Source version is to be released soon.
The project of WikiDot is hosted from Poland by Michal Frackowiak who also developed the software.
[edit] About Wikidot.com
The wikifarm of WikiDot.com is currently free for personal usage. A concept for financing via adverts as well as models for business usage are being developed. In general each registred user can set up up to ten wiki platforms with unlimited text-space and a limit of 100MB file-space each.
Via SSL encryption it is possible to close off wiki-platforms from unauthorised access completely. A differentiated role model allowes to manage user rights.
A collection of predefined modules helps to add different functionalities to the created pages. Also the embedding of feeds, other source code and audio/video-sources is supported.
Also forum-functionality and page ratings can be added to the wiki-platform.
As in many wiki-clones there are different ways to structurise content. For WikiDot those are:
- conventional building of structure via internal links
- usage of the freely editable top- and side navigation
- breadcrumb navigation via parent- and child pages (also allowes the generation of sitemaps)
- freely defineable namespaces
- page tags as keywords
In general the engine allowes to easily edit each and every page, add customisable functionality, structural elements and external ressources.
