[edit] License tagging for Image:Maneater.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Maneater.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Explode(song)

Explode(song) has been moved to Explode (song) (proper formatting). Can you continue to expand the article there please? -- Francs2000 23:47, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Also related to this I placed a Stub tag on this (and other similar) articles about songs that you have added. Please try and include more information (such as lyrics, release dates and sales figures) so that the article has more use. Otherwise it may be nominated for deletion. Also please do not remove the stub tag. It is not a slur on the fact that you have created the article; rather a notice to other members that it is incomplete and that they should endeavour to add to it! --Tmorton166 00:08, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Licensing

Copyrighted

This image is of a cover of an audio recording, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher of the album or the artist(s) which produced the recording or cover artwork in question. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of such covers

qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Fair use for more information.

To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Image description page, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.

Please try to add image tags to your images! Anything that is the cover of a cd is easy - its tag is albumcover. Because all images have to be tagged for copyright images, uploading lots of untagged images makes lots of extra work for other wikipedia editors. Also, untagged images often get deleted, and if you upload too many untagged images, admins get grumpy and you could eventually be blocked (horrors!) Thanks for contributing - happy editing! If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:No hay igual video shoot 10.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:No hay igual video shoot 10.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Extraordinary Machine 23:32, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Hollaback Boy"

Please do not add commercial links or links to your own private websites to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. • Indeed, although it is a nice picture, it's bound to get deleted unless you urgenly provide a tag, especially since the photo itself contains a clear copyright (2005) which is not in your name. By the way, how do you define a sling suit? Fastifex 12:37, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:User Jamaican

Before adding controversial categories, such as Jamaican Wikipedians, to articles, such as Template:User Jamaican, please make sure that the subject of the article really belongs in the category. The addition of a category to an article is considered a claim that the subject of the article is what the name of the category would suggest, and the article needs to contain information that backs your claim up, otherwise it will most likely be removed by another user. DemosDemon (Talk - contrib) 18:06, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Party's Just Begun (Again)

As another user said above, creating very short song articles isn't recommended; see the proposed guidelines at WP:MUSIC/SONG. In fact, the main Whoa, Nelly! album article is rather short, so it may be best to expand that one first. Also, the track listing for the Brokedown Palace soundtrack album should really be somewhere like Brokedown Palace (soundtrack). Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 22:01, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Jamaican flag.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Jamaican flag.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 22:07, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nelly Furtado song articles

  1. You're not supposed to blank pages, as you did at Trynna Finda Way; this could be considered vandalism. If you don't think it should serve as a redirect, discuss the issue on the relevant talk page.
  2. Please don't insert lengthy quotes into articles, because doing so disrupts the flow of the text. It's better to paraphrase where you can.
  3. Words in section headers should only be capitalised in section headers if they are proper nouns, e.g. "Song information", not "Song Information". In fact, I'd leave out "Song information" altogether, because the entire article contains information about the song, not just the one section.
  4. Wikipedia house style is to refer to people by their surnames, unless they are almost always referred to by their first names.
  5. Quotes should be in double quotation marks, not italics.
  6. Wikipedia:Guide_to_layout#Structure_of_the_article recommends against creating separate sections for short paragraphs. Please don't insert section headers unless the content being put into the section is at least two paragraphs or so long. Extraordinary Machine 21:27, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Loose2.png

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Loose2.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 16:14, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked

You have been blocked because of your chronic violations of Wikipedia image copyright and fair-use policies. You are welcome to resume editing once the block expires, but please do not upload any more images until you have fixed the substantial problems with the images you have already uploaded. Your actions are placing Wikipedia at direct risk for a copyright-infringement lawsuit. --Yamla 16:14, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Kingttc.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Kingttc.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. BJTalk 01:10, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Early winter cover.jpg listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Early winter cover.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. ShadowHalo 05:18, 15 March 2007 (UTC) Also, assuming you or someone else made the image from a promotional picture, that's a derivative work and you wouldn't hold the copyright to it (and can't license it under the GFDL).
