From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the Five pillars of Wikipedia and simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page or place {{helpme}}
on your talk page and someone will be by to help you shortly.
[edit] Additional tips
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!
- If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
- You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Five will get you the datestamp only.
- You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
- If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
- If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
- If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

[edit] Re: Endomycorrhizae and Ectomycorrhizae
There's nothing wrong with these articles, but you spelled Ectomycorhhizae wrong. The correct spelling is Ectomycorrhizae. Also, I can't understand the first sentence in Endomycorrhizae. What do you mean by digesting "to a small"? N Shar 01:31, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re: family (biology) and friends
Did you know you can make a link to the page family (biology) that reads merely family? The syntax is [[actual page name | text to show]]. For example, [[family (biology)|family]] produces family. N Shar 04:32, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Stubs
I think you're slightly misunderstanding. Deleting a very short article that cannot be understood by a layman is not a mark of ignorance, it is a reflection of the fact that what we are building here is a general-purpose encyclopedia, and consequently there are certain types of article that simply aren't useful.
Consider Germ Tube, which is a single sentence that I am perfectly happy to admit I don't understand. The problem is that this single sentence leaves me still knowing nothing about what a germ tube actually is. What species of fungus use them? What are sporangia? Why do these species produce tubes during germination? What, in short, is a germ tube? This single sentence tells me nothing. It is not an encyclopedia article aimed at general readers, it is a dictionary definition aimed at specialists, and those are not appropriate on Wikipedia.
As such, someone will probably try to have it deleted soon - not because they "love deleting" such things, and not because it "makes them feel smart", but simply because it does not meet our inclusion policies and is not a useful article in its current state.
If you don't want people trying to delete articles you create, then rather than adding comments saying "don't delete this if you don't understand it", you should perhaps try writing proper articles that explain what things are, so that people who don't understand the obscure subjects you are writing on will actually learn something. — Haeleth Talk 09:18, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Um, now I see you created both Germ tube and Germ Tube with exactly the same content. Why did you do that? If you want an article to appear under two different titles like that, you should create a redirect from one to the other. — Haeleth Talk 09:33, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Slippery Jack trivia
Hi Wikiwiki1 - Thanks for helping the mycology section of wikipedia. I wanted to let you know I moved your recent trivia list from the suillus page to the Suillus luteus page because they are specific to that species, rather than the genus. Hope that's OK with you. Cheers, Debivort 03:44, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:Sanguisorba officinalis seeds.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Sanguisorba officinalis seeds.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Sanguisorba_officinalisseeds.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Sanguisorba_officinalisseeds.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Bolding headwords
Hello. Could you please put headwords in bold (also retaining italics if appropriate) in your articles? See Paeonia albiflora for what I mean. It makes it a lot easier to see at a glance what the article is actually about. Loganberry (Talk) 17:08, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Traditional Chinese medicine
Hi Wiki wiki1 - when linking this, please use the full name, as "TCM" is a disambiguation page (it has several other meanings!) - thanks, MPF 20:48, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] stub identification
Hello Wiki wiki - I've noticed you starting a lot of mycology related articles. Great! I was wondering if you could mark the new short ones as stubs, so that the rest of us know to expand them? The following text can be added at the end to tag them: {{fungus-stub}}
Thanks!Debivort 06:01, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia Fungus Collaboration as of Jan 2007
DYK there are no fungal Featured Articles on wikipedia at all? I've modelled this on the dinosaur collaboration which has yielded a few FAs. Please have a look and cast your vote and we'll try a concerted attempt at an FA. Link here......Fungi Collaboration

[edit] Citing Sources
I have noticed you tend to make claims without a source. Please find a source before making any claim that is likely to be disputed.
