Test Wikipedia logo vote

Hi! Would you consider changing your vote to support C3 instead of E? It also makes it clear you're on the Test Wikipedia, but it looks less crude IMHO -- replacing "The Free Encyclopedia" with "Test Wiki", and in red, too, to make it more obvious. I really think it's more elegantly designed... :)Nightstallion (?) 05:56, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Debt Diet Article - copyrigth violation

I saw your note on the debt diet article claiming it was a copyright violation. I am the author of the article on holisticjunction and the author of the aritcle I submitted here. I noted this on the talk page of the article but I still dont really have the hang of this place yet so I thought I would tell you, as well.

Thanks

good article

stop deleting facts about the INC, you and the other two fools defend berean and protestant teaching in the INC article.--IndependentMind 04:10, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Cite them, and I'll stop deleting them... Hold on a second! Berean teachings? Emico, what part of Arbitration Comittee ruling don't you understand? Enjoy your block! --LBMixPro<Speak|on|it!> 06:21, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Request for opinion: Talk:British Shorthair

Another user has added the NEDM/Happycat information into the British Shorthair "Famous British Shorthairs" subsection. In an effort to prevent another revert war over this, I have moved the debate into the Article's Talk Page. Your opinion and vote would be greatly appreciated. --Targetter 04:58, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

User:Cherrychase

It should be noted that User:Cherrychase made the initial POV edit to the Iglesia ni Cristo article, which has been reverted back by the suspected Emico sockpuppets. I have good reason to believe that Cherrychase is Emico also.--Ironbrew 06:20, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Blanking

Hey I got an unsigned blanking question on my talk page from this account. I did not even blank the page. I simply removed an Afd tag on 502 Downtowner (TTC) because no one had contributed stating why it was really necessary and it had been a week since it had gone up. I know you're an administrator, but please go easy on me. Nlsanand 02:48, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Phoenix V

You got to the indef block for sockpuppetry before me! Good job!  (aeropagitica)   (talk)  22:22, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. I was about to do the same thing, but I'm not sure that's quite correct. He has publicly stated that he has adopted the new user name.[1] He lasted edited as User:Prof. MagneStormix on August 8. [2] He began to edit as User:Phoenix V on August 9. [3] There is no overlap between the accounts. He is entitled to edit under a new name. I suggest it might be better to delete the former account, as he has stated he has now adopted the new name, and to deal with Phoenix V for whatever sins he has committed, which as far as I can see to date are primarily leaving a nonsense message on User talk:I'll bring the food. If I've missed something here, let me know. Tyrenius 23:04, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Well spotted. I missed that. So technically it is indeed a sockpuppet to evade blocks. My original block notice stated 24 hours, so I don't think he would have mistaken that. I would have turned a blind eye, but I have no interest in contesting it, and if you feel the action is the right one, so be it! Tyrenius 23:19, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

This could run and run... By the way I had a look at your "barnstars presented", as one does, and noticed a typo in "This is a list of people who I given barnstars to." Tyrenius 00:17, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

"Indoctrinee"

I'm turning to you on this. I understand that you, as a member, have no objection to INC prospective members being referred to as "indoctrinees" and that it may even be an official term. Like you, although I haven't offically joined your project, I feel that I am very interested in countering systemic religious bias in Wikipedia (and, to a large extent, elsewhere). Do you see where this term can sound POV and negative, even accusatory, to non-members? "Indoctrination", like "propaganda" and "regime", has an almost always negative connotation in at least American English, although in reality all should be neutral and non-POV words; we both know that there can be positive as well as negative indoctrination, good as well as bad propaganda, benevolent as well as malevolent regimes, but people, at least Americans, generally don't see it that way. I think that the person who asked this was trying to work against a systemic bias against your religion and that it was meant in a good way. Thank you for all that you do for Wikipedia! Rlquall 13:45, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

You are very correct that "initiation" has little or no stigma unless it is associated with hazing. However, most people would tend to see "initiation" as consisting solely or almost solely of the ceremony indicating acceptance into a group more than the process leading up to that point. At least that's my understanding as a native speaker of American English. Besides countering systemic religious bias, I'm constantly becoming more of an advocate for an inclusive worldview. Rlquall 04:13, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

September Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.

Iglesia ni Cristo project

I was wondering if you might want to consider contacting Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity and asking them whether they would agree to setting up a task force/work group to deal with this church rather than creating it as a separate project. There are already a rather large number of Projects that deal with Christianity, I think thirteen right now, and it might help to reduce the number of "competing" projects. The Christianity project might find the idea interesting if for no other reason than that one. Also, I personally think that, if created as a subunit of the larger Christianity project, it might have the chance of both a greater number of members and more useful contributions to its relevant pages. Anyway, I just wanted to make the suggestion, and thank you for taking the time to read this. Badbilltucker 17:36, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Quotes sections and Wikiquote

There's an editing dispute at Jim Johnston (composer) over a quote section. Someone removed the quotes section stating it wasn't neccisary. An anon uncivily restored it. Afterward, I moved the section to Wikiquote as it's Wikimedia's quote encyclopedia, the anon continues to restore it despite numerous reverts. Should the quotes section stay on the Wikipedia article (with a link to Wikiquote with the same content), or deleted? --LBMixPro <Speak|on|it!> 02:49, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Looking at the quotes that are being restored, I would say you did the right thing - a) they are not sourced, and b) the article was beginning to look like Wikiquote. Editors should remember that Wikipedia is, at its core, an encyclopedia, and not an opportunity to list the best and worst quotations pertaining to an article's subject. If there are many quotations, please move them to Wikiquote and place a Wikiquote template on the article to inform readers that there are relevant quotations regarding the subject. However, I'd strongly urge you list this on WP:AN/I and ask for input, with a Diff of the quotes that are being removed. Also, maybe suggest semi-protection. Hi there, I am doing some clean up on the list of proposed WikiProjects. I noticed that WikiProject Iglesia ni Cristo has been listed for more than 60 days. November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
The last AC meeting (full log)
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Re: Ram swarup Joon

Ram swarup Joon had written this book "History of the Jats" in Hindi in 1938 which was translated to English in by Lt. Col. Dal Singh in 1967. It has become more than 60 years and already it is on Jat History group. It has reached the age in India to become public domain. There is no copyright tag on Jat History group. We can think of making it a Wikisource. Thanks burdak 08:50, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Janina Gavankar.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Janina Gavankar.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Oden 03:28, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
