I have removed the point added by user 64.83.2.202 which read "...that your last name comes from your fore fathers' job title, physical apperance, or the origin from where they came from?"
Different cultures have different naming conventions - e.g. for the Icelandic name Björk Gudmundsdottir the last name just means she is the daughter of Gudmund, saying nothing about the further history of her family.
Perhaps the point could be revised to refer to e.g. "many western surnames". It is something which could serve to make history personally relevant for many people but it didn't work as it was. --Spondoolicks
