"Why Not" is singer/actress Hilary Duff's third single. It was also the main track from the The Lizzie McGuire Movie soundtrack. It was released internationally by Disney International on June 23, 2003. The CD single release included a remix of "Why Not", a remix of "I Can't Wait" and the music video.
By the middle of 2003 a different version of "Why Not" was included on Duff's debut album Metamorphosis. In the UK, the song was released as the second single from Metamorphosis as part of a double A-side release with "Come Clean".

[edit] Meaning of the song
The song was written by Charlie Midnight, Matthew Gerrard and is an inspirational song, reaching out to teens to be themselves, rather than being someone who people tell you to be. The chorus "Why not, take a crazy chance" urges listeners to take a risk and do something big.
[edit] Music video
The video first premiered on Disney Channel in June, 2003. Its premiere drew 3.2 million viewers and it was heavily promoted by Disney. The song first broke into MTV when a viewer requested it on the popular show Total Request Live. The catchy beat and the video immediately became a massive success and it debuted on the show the next day at number six. It soon hit the 50-day mark and retired, becoming the first ever Disney video to do so. The video shows Duff singing from a rooftop with scenes from The Lizzie McGuire Movie accompanying it.
[edit] Chart performance
The song charted on 3 different charts, the Australian Singles Top 50, New Zealand Top 40 and the Dutch Top 40. It first appeared in Week 26 of 2003 on the Australian Singles chart at number 40.
