Who's That Girl is the name of a film released on August 7, 1987 by Warner Bros. starring Madonna and Griffin Dunne. The film was written by and Ken Finkleman and directed by James Foley.

Although popular among teenage audiences, the film did poorly financially. Its soundtrack, Who's That Girl, was much more successful, spawning a number-one hit in the title song "Who's That Girl". The film was released on video cassette on November 11, 1987 and later DVD on February 14, 2006. Madonna's world tour named Who's that Girl was a success in eighteen cities across North America, Europe, and Asia.

[edit] Synopsis

Who's That Girl, was a modern-day adaptation of the 1938 Howard Hawks film Bringing up Baby, features a strait-laced character engaged with a woman he does not love, while a wild woman distracts him from his wedding preparations. In the mix, a large feline becomes an important plot point. Originally titled Slammer, Madonna decided "Who's That Girl" for the film's theme song. The song went to #1 on the Billboard chart in August 1987. Rumor said the title change happened out of sympathy for Madonna's then-husband Sean Penn, who was facing jail time for beating up paparazzi.

Griffin Dunne plays Louden Trott, an attorney engaged to the daughter of his boss. Madonna plays Nikki Finn, a recently paroled criminal. One of the many tasks of his day, Trott gets Nikki to the bus station, while she has ideas of her own - prove her innocence, which takes him all across New York City. The film also features a cougar named Murray, a nod to Hawks' work.

Despite the movie's failure at the box office, its reputation has slightly rebounded as an off-beat example of 80's excess. The film saw DVD release in February 2006. However the DVD doesn't contain the "Who's That Girl" music video of the film.

A LaserDisc version was also released in the US and UK.
