"Who's That Girl" is a song by American singer Madonna for her 1987 movie Who's That Girl and on the subsequent, various artists soundtrack Who's That Girl.

[edit] Song information

The single was a huge success all around the world and effortlessly made it to the number one spot in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and many others. The song was nominated for "Best Song From A Motion Picture" at the 1987 Grammy Awards and "Best Original Song" at the 1988 Golden Globe Awards. "Who's That Girl" is absent from Madonna's first greatest hits compilation, The Immaculate Collection.

The song topped the charts in several countries. Many fans consider it one of her best songs, although, at the time, it was criticized by some magazines, such as Rolling Stone, as an attempt to capitalize on Madonna's previous single, "La Isla Bonita", which failed to chart as high as some thought it should have.

"Who's that Girl" debuted the week of July 11, 1987, at #43, on the the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, about one month after "La Isla Bonita" fell out of the top 40. Like most Madonna singles of the 1980's, "Who's That Girl" reached the summit rapidly, advancing 2-1 the week of August 22, 1987. The song was one of the most popular dance-pop singles of the Summer 1987, remaining in the Top 20 for eight weeks. The single was the 13th consecutive Top 10 single, and the 14th consecutive Top 20 single for the singer.
