Whitleigh

Whitleigh is a district (or Ward) of The City of Plymouth in the UK. It shares district borders with Southway, Honicknowle, Crownhill, West Park and St Budeaux.

The population of Whitleigh as per the 2001 census was 7,165, of which 48.2% were male and 51.8% were female.

Whitleigh has several educational institutions.
[edit] Primary Schools
St. Peters RC (Roman Catholic) School, Whitleigh Community Primary School, Woodfield primary school, and Woodland school.

Sir John Hunt Sports College (formerly Community College), which recently merged with Southway Community College due to budget cuts from the local government. There are now two campus' and a joint faculty. Administration is carried out at the primary site (the Whitleigh campus), where the principle's office is located.
This institution was previously known as Whitleigh comprehensive (or High) school.
Whitleigh also houses the Hillside education centre. This institute is aimed at children with learning or serious physical disabilities. Children are accepted from 4-16 years old.

Whitleigh Green is the predominant shopping precinct, which hosts a small supermarket, take away, Cafe, discount store, green grocer, newsagents, Post Office, off licence and pharmacy. There is also a large area of grass and trees (perhaps lending to the name). Recyling facilities are available in the car park area.
