Whitemoor (HM Prison)

HM Prison Whitemoor is a prison near the town of March in Cambridgeshire, England.

Built on an old railway marshalling yard, Whitemoor prison is a maximum security prison for men, first opened in 1992. It houses around 500 of the most dangerous prisoners in the UK.

In September 1994 six prisoners, including five IRA members, escaped from the prison's Special Secure Unit after smuggling guns into the prison. All were later recaptured.

The prison houses a Dangerous Severe Personality Disorder (DSPD) unit and a Close Supervision Centre (CSC). It is a prison inside the prison.

HMP Whitemoor will not accept any prisoners who are serving less than 4 years.
