Whitehall Street–South Ferry is a rapid transit station on the BMT Broadway Line of the New York City Subway. It is a three-track, two island platform station. This is the southern terminal for most W trains (except the last 3 trains of the evening), while R trains and the last three W trains continue through the Montague Street Tunnel into the BMT Fourth Avenue Line in Brooklyn. During late nights, when the W does not operate and the R runs as a shuttle in Brooklyn only, the N train serves this station.
The station is rather deep, as much of it goes under the Bowling Green station on the IRT Lexington Avenue Line.
The station is across the street from the Staten Island Ferry terminal. In 2007, a transfer to the IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line's new South Ferry (1) terminal station (currently being constructed) will open.
