White Raven

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

White Ravens are fictional animals derived from the Edge Chronicles, a series of books created by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell.

White Ravens are birds that live in the rock gardens on the Edge. They stand upon the stacks of rocks and, when a rock is light and buoyant enough to fly, they flew around the rooftops of Old Sanctaphrax, alerting them that it is time for rock harvesting. When the endless winter came, the ravens left the stone gardens, since the rocks were ripening too soon and shooting out of the ground, leaving them with no stacks to sleep on. They are capable of rudimentary speech, as the characters Felix Lodd and the Professor of Darkness have these birds as their talking companions. They have little to eat in the rock gardens and are ritually fed the dead bodies of the scholars of Sanctaphrax. Their smaller cousins live in the Mire.
