White Lace and Strange was a song by the 1960s garage rock band Thunder & Roses, released in 1969 on their album, King of the Black Sunrise. The song was virtually unknown until it was covered by Nirvana during a radio show on the Olympia college radio station KAOS-FM on April 17, 1987. Even Nirvana's performance itself was virtually unknown until its release on the 2004 box set, With the Lights Out.
Kurt Cobain, Nirvana's frontman, enjoyed covering little-known songs during his early years (see "Love Buzz"). Due to its performance by Nirvana during its extremely early years and the fact that very few people know the song, some fans have incorrectly assumed Cobain wrote the song. Also, due to the reasons stated above, it is also frequently mistaken for another early track on the 1985 Fecal Matter demo tape, Illiteracy Will Prevail, entitled "Laminated Effect" (often mislabeled as "Made Not Born").
