White House Office of Strategic Initiatives

The White House Office of Strategic Initiatives is a staff unit within the Executive Office of the President of the United States established during the administration of U.S. President George W. Bush immediately following his inauguration. Its members report to the President's Senior Advisor; presently Karl Rove holds this position.

The office is run by the Director of Strategic Initiatives — currently Peter Wehner — who also has the title of deputy assistant to the President, and is located in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. The office's function is to focus on ideas and possible presidential actions to address issues which will contribute directly to the President's political standing.
