White Dog is a 1982 movie directed by Samuel Fuller. It stars Paul Winfield, Kristy McNichol, Jameson Parker, and Burl Ives. Due to controversy surrounding the movie, it was shelved for several years before finally receiving a limited release. The film's score was provided by Ennio Morricone.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Loosely based on a 1970 French novel by Romain Gary, the plot of the film revolved around a young single woman (McNichol) who takes in a stray white German Shepherd dog for protection. What she does not know is that the dog was trained by a racist to attack African-Americans on sight. Faced with the option of having the dog put down or retraining it, she takes it to an African-American dog trainer (Winfield), who undertakes the dog's re-educational process as a personal challenge. Many people feared that the movie would be a celebration of the attacks, and it was very controversial.
