Whip Rush is a side-scrolling space shooter released in 1990 for the Sega Mega Drive System and subsequently for its American counterpart, the Sega Genesis. It came onto the video game scene at a time when this genre was immensely popular.

[edit] Story

In the year 2222 AD, three exploratory spaceships departed our overpopulated solar system with the goal of finding new worlds to colonize. Five years later, the ships were listed as "Missing and presumed lost" with their last transmission: "We are approaching planet Voltegeus..." Less than a week after the incident, a massive alien vessel materialized in the vicinity of Mars and was heading towards Earth.

[edit] Gameplay

Whip Rush's gameplay style was very similar to R-Type. You fire your weapon and earn the pods which follow your plane around. You can get new weapons which can be maxed out 3 times.

[edit] Region

Despite having different covers when sold in the US and Japan, the game was identical. In both regions, PAL and NTSC the hardware would both display English.
