Yes, I don't have a user page, nor do I desire one. Other users may have one; irrespective of that I have decided I do not wish to have one.
Here's why one user doesn't. My reasons may, or may not, be similar to his. As you'll see from that link, there can be many reasons for such a decision. |

When you sign comments...
Hiya, I noticed that you signed a comment, instead of inserting the date used {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTDAY}} {{CURRENTYEAR}} {{CURRENTTIME}} (UTC). These are automatically replaced with the time the page is viewed at, rather than the time you made the comment. This means that your comment might appear to have been made after (and maybe even months after) comments which have been made in reply to your comment, which would be confusing. The correct way to insert the current time is using five tildes: ~~~~~. Take a look at this page for more information on this. Welcome to Wikipedia by the way. :) Talrias (t | e | c) 3 July 2005 21:35 (UTC)
- Talrias Hi. Thank you for flagging this - it was an oversight - and mistake - on my part! I'd deliberately customised my signature at the Preferences page because I wanted my username to link to my Talk page (not user page) and then have a pipe followed by the date; all accomplished by three tildes. Experimenting showed the five tildes didn't work for me; I forget how offhand. To sign any page I simply use three tildes and it works correctly; I'd thought. My current sig in the Nickname field is: [[User talk:Whitehorse1|Whitehorse1]] | {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTDAY}} {{CURRENTYEAR}} {{CURRENTTIME}} (UTC) with the following checkbox ticked "Raw signatures (without automatic link; please don't use templates for this)" underneath. The raw signature checkbox is specified as being new with MediaWiki 1.5, to which Wikipedia recently upgraded so I'll blame it on a learning curve on my part! :o) MediaWiki variables was another page I used. Thanks again for flagging this, if you have any advice on how to tweak the signature so it appears as I intended (as opposed to updating the date to whenever it's viewed at!!) it'd be greatly appreciated. If not I'll try asking at the Village Pump perhaps and possibly mailing list. Thanks. Whitehorse1 | April 8 2007 21:20 (UTC)

- I think enabling the checkbox, then adding [[User talk:Whitehorse1|]] into the nickname field should do what you want it to do. To add the time and date along with your signature, use four tildes, like this: ~~~~. Talrias (t | e | c) 5 July 2005 17:41 (UTC)
- ...On my way to Sandbox for testing - thank you. :)
- (later) Switching to [[User talk:Whitehorse1|]] as recommended and using four tildes does work on Sandbox. I presume it's not auto-updating when subsequently viewed since the fourth tilde is "bog-standard Wiki markup". As I'll generally want sig to always be in that format I prefer my version that allowed me to use just three tildes for quickness though - or would prefer it if it *worked* w/out updating rather! I did also like the date format it used too. :-( Tried changing to second radio button in prefs>date format but doesn't work as (albeit broken) custom sig did.

I take it Talrias' explanation suffices. That's what I was talking about on the TfD page.~ Neuroscientist | T | C July 6, 2005 03:37 (UTC)
On Ccing comments to me
General note: There's an incredibly high chance as an avid Watchlist user that I'll see a comment directed toward me on an article Talk page if I've commented there recently esp. if within same 24hrs timespan. I appreciate sentiment behind duplicating it here but unless requested it isn't necessary and I'll likely see original comment elsewhere first. :o)
Incidentally, if commenting on here about say templates please use <nowiki>don't autowikisyntax this</nowiki> otherwise the Edit feature shows - for example - "Templates used on this page: TOCright and Tl". Whereas, commenting was the real intention I'd imagine rather than specifically placing any Table of Contents I might have ... on the right of my page. ;-)
