Where's Waldo? is the title of the first Waldo book, published in 1987. The book Where's Wally was released in 2 months earlier in the UK; the character's name and other text were changed for the U.S. audience, while the artwork was the same as the other book.

In the book Waldo travels to everyday places where he sends postcards to the reader. The book became an instant bestseller. Where's Waldo? was re-released in October 1997 in a special 10th anniversary edition form. The location of Waldo was changed in each picture and additional characters were added for the reader to find (Woof, Wizard Whitebeard, Wenda, Odlaw, the Waldo Watchers and others).

[edit] Notes

  • Where's Waldo?" was the first Waldo book and the first appearance of the character Waldo.
  • In each scene Waldo loses an item that the reader is asked to find. These objects include his walking stick, kettle, mallet, cup, backpack, sleeping bag, binoculars, camera, snorkel, selt, bag and shovel.
  • The book was banned from many libraries and ranks #88 on the American Library Association's "100 Most Frequently Banned Books" due to an exposed woman found in the beach scene. [1] The woman was covered up for the 1997 special edition release.
  • "The Railway Station" page was retitled "The Train Station" in the special edition.
