What Would Brian Boitano Do?
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"What Would Brian Boitano Do?" is a song from the film South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut written by DVDA (Trey Parker and Matt Stone's band) in which figure skater Brian Boitano is treated as a role model for all situations which become increasingly ludicrous in the lyrics, in parody of the saying "What Would Jesus Do?". The title phrase, "What would Brian Boitano do?" was introduced in the animated short The Spirit of Christmas, which gave birth to the South Park television series.
During the middle of the song, Brian Dennehy interrupts.
In the song, Boitano fights grizzly bears, breathes fire, travels through time, fights an evil robot king, saves the human race (again), and builds the Great Pyramids of Egypt while beating up Kublai Khan.
In April 2003, Boitano answered the question in an interview.
[edit] Trivia
-
The song is a reference to the original Christmas episode "The Spirit of Christmas" which was the first appearance of the characters that led to the full-fledged "South Park" (1997) series. In the short, Stan asks Cartman, "What would Brian Boitano do?" as Jesus battles Santa Claus [1].
- A slightly modified version of the song was performed by Matt and Trey's band DVDA and featured in the official movie soundtrack. A common misconception is that this version of the song is a cover by the band GWAR.
- When Jim on the "Jim Show" had Brian interviewed him on his show, he asked him questions similar to the southpark movie.
- Brian Boitano skated to a slightly-modified version of the song as part of the 1999 Brian Boitano Skating Spectacular tv special.
- Scott McCloud used the phrase for a panel of his experimental web comic "Choose Your Own Carl".
- The style of the song is comparable to the improv game "Irish Drinking Song" on the TV show Whose Line Is It Anyway?[citation needed]
- The band Lolita No.18 did a remake of this song on their album DESTROIN.
- On the March 16, 2007 edition of Your World with Neil Cavuto, Cavuto had a humorous segment with the same title as the song in which he asked Boitano about various subjects.
- In the film, Cartman may be able to sing the line "Cause Brian Boitano don't take shit from anybody" despite the fact his V-chip is supposed to electrocute him when he swears, as you can vaguely hear the voice, but he is not on screen.
