"What Took You So Long?" was the second single from Emma Bunton's solo debut album A Girl Like Me. Released in the spring of 2001 in the UK, it debuted and peaked at number one for two weeks on the UK Singles Chart, making it her first (and to date only) number-one single. It sold 76,000 copies in its first week, and 246,080 copies altogether. "What Took You So Long?" was the forty-first best seller of 2001. The music video for the song, directed by Greg Masuak, was shot in a California desert.
