[edit] Summary

After coming face-to-face with Garza's murderer, Hopper wonders whether his never-ending day will finally end.

[edit] Synopsis

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Hopper decides to fly to San Francisco to see Dominguez. In the ride to the airport, Rita gets a phone call that appears to bother her. She tells Hopper that it's just work. He takes his flight and arrives at his destination. As Hopper discusses entering the Pelican Bay prison with the current warden, he finally convinces the warden to let him in on the third try (the third repeat of the day) by repeating a phrase we hear in the first two episodes: "Decision... Consequence" from Detweiler (the previous warden) or the "shadow man". Hopper finds an empty cell.

The next day, Hopper meets up with Andrea and tells her about Dominguez. He asks her to research any case with similar execution-style killings. Spivak gives her a hard time. Meanwhile, Hopper enlists Damien to help him get Torres. The meeting ends badly when Torres taunts Damien and ends up getting killed by him. Hopper follows a lead named Alma Zapanta that he found on Torres. He eventually learns she is Dominguez's lost sister. While Hopper is distracted, Zapanta makes a call to her brother. Hopper catches her during the call and believes that she is involved in the Garza murder.

Hopper knows that Rita is in danger and tries to reach her. Unfortunately, Rita does not receive his calls and Chad refuses to answer his cell phone. Hopper catches Dominguez just in time before he can murder both Chad and Rita. Hopper is set free and feels that things will now improve. At Rita's house, he recalls everything he's had to endure to solve the case. He invites Rita to watch the sunrise with him only to wake up like his other days.

[edit] Foreshadowing

When Hopper discusses crossing the International date line in the early moments of this episode; he contemplates the possibility of skipping into tomorrow and briefly considers it as an escape route from the repeating day. However, as this conversation would indicate, this episode shows that even if Hopper found out the identity of Garza's real killer, he still cannot escape the repeating day. Apparently something else must still happen or be resolved.

Spoilers end here.
