"What's Left of Me" is the first single to be released from Nick Lachey's 2006 sophomore album, What's Left of Me. The ballad expresses how Lachey feels about the divorce situation with his ex-wife Jessica Simpson[citation needed]. To date, it is Lachey's most successful single as a solo artist.

[edit] Song information

Jive Records artist Nick Lachey debuted his new single "What's Left of Me" on AOLMusic.com Friday, February 3 at 12:01am ET. According to AOL, it was the #1 performing promo on AOLMusic.com's homepage since they started in-depth tracking. 89% of AOL Members who voted on the song gave it a positive rating.

"What's Left of Me" is now in heavy rotation across AOL Music and AOL Radio. The track's impacts on Top 40 radio occurred in March 2006, though Z-100 in New York, WPRO in Providence and KISS 108 in Boston had already added the song when Nick visited Z-100 on February 10, 2006 and the song has been getting Top 10 phones since.

[edit] Music video

Lachey was documented on a MTV Special which was aired on April 22, 2006 called "What's Left of Me", following the special, a Making The Video was aired, in which the process of the making of the video will be featured and the video will be premiered to the world at the end of the show. The video features Vanessa Minnillo former Miss Teen USA, and current TRL VJ, who in the video clip assumingly plays the Jessica Simpson character.

As the video moves on, objects from the house begin to disappear, such as a laptop computer, a stereo, some pictures, furniture, and products inside the fridge. At the end of the video, the wedding ring that Vanessa is wearing in a necklace also disappears, seconds later Vanessa disappears before Nick's eyes. A final shot of Nick standing on an empty house projects the theme of the song, and show that there's nothing 'left of him'.

Many references to Nick's personal life with Jessica are made: most specifically the wedding ring on the necklace disappearing and the presence of a camera crew filming Nick and Vanessa (a reference to Nick's personal discomfort over the making of the show Newlyweds).

[edit] Single success

"What's Left of Me" was one of the early successes of 2006. The single placed at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100, Lachey's highest position ever as a solo artist. The song also did well in other Billboard charts. The album had an extremely strong debut at No.2 on the Billboard 200 charts for the week of May 14, 2006. What's Left of Me sold 172,000 copies for that week which already is a major success compared to his debut album, SoulO, which only sold 171,000 in total.

[edit] Covers

This song was covered by Ídolos Brazil winner, Leandro Lopes. His version of the song was sung in Portuguese and called "Deixo A Voz Me Levar".
