WFVY began operation on March 10, 1980 and is currently the sister station to WMXQ-FM, WOKV-FM, WAPE-FM, WJGL-FM and WOKV-AM.

The station broadcasts with 100 kilowatts of both horizontal and vertical power. WFYV began broadcasting in HD-1 on November 30, 2006.
