WEVV is a CBS television affiliate located in Evansville, Indiana. It operates on analog channel 44. It began broadcasting in 1983 -- even though a license for the station was filed on August 7, 1981. Its transmitter is located in Henderson, Kentucky. It was originally an independent station, then became a Fox affiliate around 1987. In 1995, WEVV became the Evansville CBS affiliate, while WEHT flipped from CBS to ABC and WTVW flipped from ABC to Fox.

In June 2001, the news department was shut down due to low ratings, being fourth in the market behind WFIE, WEHT, and WTVW. A news department had been in existence since 1992, with local news, branded "Fox 44 News at Nine", originally airing weeknights at 9pm. With the switch to CBS, the retitled "NewsNow" was added to noon, 5pm, 10pm, and weekends (the 9pm being cancelled). "NewsNow" later became "CBS 44 News".

Other newscasts were added to mornings, and the 5pm moved to 6pm. However, none of these additions/time period changes helped the news ratings. So, WEVV eventually suspended all local newscasts

Today, WEVV is one amongst a group of major network-affiliated stations (which includes ABC affiliate KDNL-TV in St. Louis, Missouri, NBC affiliate WTWC-TV in Tallahassee, Florida and CBS O&O WWJ-TV in Detroit, Michigan) that does not produce local newscasts.

During the Fox years, the station was known generally as "Fox 44". Before the change to CBS, the station was briefly called "WEVV Fox TV". The channel number returned following the affiliation switch.

WEVV is owned and operated by Comcorp of Indiana with sister station WTSN-LP. In June 2006, Comcorp of Indiana's parent, Communications Corporation of America filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the Western District of Louisiana.

In September of 2006 Channel 44 began broadcasting digitally on 44.1 with a 1080i HDTV signal. Also on 44.2 with a HD signal of sister affiliate WTSN-LP.
