Weston Favell
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Weston Favell is a district of Northampton in the English county of Northamptonshire.
It has a church (St. Peter's Parish) as well as being the home of the Northamptonshire County Lawn Tennis Club.
It is also interesting to note that Weston Favell was formerly a village apart from Northampton, but during the Industrial Revolution, and in the early 20th Century, it was "swallowed up" by Northampton as it expanded.
Weston Favell is also the name of a large shopping centre next to the village of Weston Favell. The shopping centre was built during the late 1970's and surprisingly features some interesting achitectural features. The main atrium of the building is coved by a large vaulted ceiling, reminiscent of Gothic Cathedrals, this ceiling is a very bold feature. Constructed with reinforced concrete it is almost like a cathedral to comsumerism. A new annex built in the new millennium also features interesting architecture, using simple bold lines, it is a very sympathetic addition. The centre houses many shops and is a major local trading centre.
