Westinghouse Rail Systems Ltd (formerly Westinghouse Signals Ltd) is a British supplier of railway signalling and control equipment to the rail industry worldwide. Its head office is based in Chippenham, Wiltshire. It has 6 other offices in Croydon, York, Birmingham, Crawley, Swanley and Glasgow.
Westinghouse is deemed to be the largest signalling design and control engineering company within the UK. Westinghouse sealed its biggest ever contract in 2004. The contract was issued by PPP (public private parternership) it was for £850 Million and the scope of the work involved resignalling the London Underground. It is a 10 year contract which will run until 2014.
The company, owned by Invensys plc, is part of the Invensys Rail Systems group. Prior to this it was owned by BTR plc who acquired it from the Hawker Siddeley group in 1992.
Previously it was a division of Westinghouse Brake and Signal Company Ltd before being split into separate companies - Westinghouse Signals and Westinghouse Brakes Ltd. Invensys sold Westinghouse Brakes to Knorr-Bremse in April 2000 [1].
