The Northwest Territories has one (1) federal electoral district: Western Arctic. Green Party candidates who ran for this district include: Alexandre Beaudin who garnered 373 votes, or 2.31% and Chris O'Brien who ran in the district twice; once in 2004 and once in 2000.

In September 2002, the Western Arctic Green Party Association was established in Yellowknife, with a membership of over ten card-carrying Green Party of Canada. This was the first attempt to organize the Green Party of Canada in the Northwest Territories. Unfortunately, turnout at the Charter Meeting was low: two people attended and one person apologized for failing to attend. The minutes of the Charter Meeting were sent to the national Archive in Ottawa. The Northern News Service, Yellowknife's media outlet, reported "Three weeks ago...the first meeting for the Western Arctic Green Party [was held], which now has a membership list of 12...minutes from the first meeting [ were sent] to both the local library and the National Archives -- who responded with a phone call asking if...[the]mailing was a joke...[it was not a joke].

In the fall of 2002, Mr. P. Falvo, a Yellowknife resident, became the Western Arctic Green Party Association's first representative on the Green Party of Canada's National Executive. That same fall, Jason Crummey, a Yellowknife resident, made history by being the first resident of the Northwest Territories to ever run for the leadership of any Canadian federal party.

In an article titled, "Pink wrestler goes green", Mr. VanderKlippe, who was a reporter for the Northern News Service, wrote that Crummey, a security guard in a local diamond mine, "...marched to the tune of sustainable development, which does not necessarily exclude intensive mining. After all, he said, people have been digging holes in the ground for thousands of years."

The article summed up Crummey's position with, "What is important here is that we bring forth these important policies and hopefully other parties, the New Democrats and the Liberals, will steal our really good policies ... and our society and our democracy will be better for it."
