West Wellow

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

West Wellow is a village in Hampshire, England. The combined Parish of East and West Wellow lies three miles west of Romsey, and comprises woods and commons on the River Blackwater (River Test) and its tributaries. The large scattered village of West Wellow is situated on the A36 road. The smaller East Wellow has a 13th Century church which contains some 13th Century wall paintings.

In the churchyard is the memorial tombstone of Florence Nightingale who lived for many years at Embley Park, a large Elizabethan-style mansion which is now a school. The grounds retain much of the original plant collections of rhododendrons and other exotic species.
