West Wallsend is a small town in the City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales. It is located near the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway, not far from the western suburbs of Newcastle.

West Wallsend started as a coal mining town, with four mines operating. Three have since shut down. A primary school was opened in 1889. West Wallsend High School opened in 1964.
