[edit] About
Some people call it "The Bubble" because practically everything one needs can be found within walking distance of the development. Built in the early 2000s by Dallas Real Estate developer Henry Miller, it is a mixed retail residential development which is part of the larger Uptown section of Dallas. The name West Village is a take off from the neighborhood bearing the same name in New York City and has no real significance except as a marketing tool.
[edit] Transportation
To reach it from downtown Dallas via public transportation, there are several options. Dallas Area Rapid Transit's 21 bus route runs north on McKinney Avenue and passes through the West Village. The DART Red and Blue light rail lines stop at Cityplace Station, a subterannean station located at the east end of the development against US 75 (North Central Expressway). Finally, the McKinney Avenue Transit Authority's M-line streetcar travels from Ross and St. Paul streets in downtown Dallas to Cityplace Station and loops around the West Village.
[edit] Amenities
The West Village has many apartment buildings and many row/town houses in its immediate area. It also has many retail shops. Besides the usual "life support" establishments such as laundry/cleaners, a large 24 hour drugstore, personal grooming establishments, and several other small retail outlets, it has shopping, restaurants and cafes that draw people from other areas of the city.
Major retail in the West Village includes a large chain bookstore, a large supermarket, an "art house" movie theater with 5 screens, clothing shops for men and women, and shops for home accessories.
It has several clubs and restaurants, most with outdoor seating available. Types of cuisine include Neapolitan pizza, Tahitian beverages, Italian ice cream, a wine bar, a bar/restaurant with decor modeled after Moscow in the 1960s, Mexico City Mexican, Texas Mexican, a noodle shop, and many other restaurants in the immediate area.
[edit] Future development
The block bounded by McKinney Avenue on the west, Blackburn Street on the north, Cityplace Station on the east and Cityplace Boulevard West on the south contains a driving range owned by Hank Haney. It is scheduled to eventually be replaced, however, by two residential/retail buildings.
