West Nanjing Road (Shanghai Metro)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

West Nanjing Road (Chinese: 南京西路; pinyin: Nánjīng Xī Lù) is the name of a station on Shanghai Metro Line 2. This station is conveniently located along a very large pedestrian street which sells anything from snacks to DVDs to trinkets to jewelry to imported mobile phones and other electronic equipment.

Until October 2006, it was known as Shimen No. 1 Road station. The name was changed according to the new convention to name metro stations after famous streets or sights nearby rather than the vertical street neighbouring the station, making it easier for visitors to find these places.
