WLYC has been established for more than a century, founded in 1894. In mid-1999 West Lancashire Yacht Club won the status ofVolvo/RYA Champion Club. WLYC is understood to be only the third club in UK and the first club in the North West of England to win this prestigious status. The award is given only to clubs offering the highest standards in all aspects of sailing and sail/race training, together with a proven record of high achievement at both National and International sailing events.

[edit] What Do They Do?

Southport Marine Lake is ideally suited for all-year-round sailing and SSC (our neighbours on the lake) provide open Frostbite Racing during the winter months. WLYC club racing is primarily on the Marine Lake on Thursday evenings, with alternate Sunday mornings either on the Marine Lake or on the Sea at Southport (or Ainsdale). In 2006 the club hosted the first GP14s National Championship at the club. But it is internationaly known for it's 24 Hour Race. The race is the UK's No.1 dinghy endurance race and run over a 24 hors none stop! The race in 2006 whitnessed its 40th yearly race.

[edit] The Building
