[edit] History
The West Bridgford School is an 11-18 coeducational school in the suburb of West Bridgford, south-east Nottingham, in the district of Rushcliffe. The full address of the school is The West Bridgford School, Loughborough Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 7FA.
Formerly, the school was known as West Bridgford Grammar School, later becoming West Bridgford Comprehensive in September 1969. Its current name is The West Bridgford School; it is a comprehensive, but in the late 1970s 'Comprehensive' was dropped from the name. The school's original site was on Musters Road on the site of what is now Musters Medical Practice. However, in September 1938 the school moved to a newly constructed building adjoining Loughborough Road, which is now its main building. It kept some of its old grammar school ethos long after it became a comprehensive: Latin and Classics was taught and rugby was given priority over football into the 1970s. Its catchment area was the east side of the old LNER railway line (now Green line nature reserve) in West Bridgford and included Ruddington.
The school operates on a two week timetable.
In September 2005, the current headmaster, Robert McDonough took over from David Cokeham. One of his most notable achievements was to attain specialist technology college status from the government. This gave the school over £1m to spend on refurbishments and resources.
In 2006, the school received the best A level results in Nottinghamshire for a state school.
