Thanks for uploading Image:S02e01 650.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Hey buddy,

Kudos on the idea of creating an infobox for each character. That's smart and original thinking. I have one big issue with it, though, which is that it is full of spoilers. For example, the infobox on Leo McGarry gives away his divorce in Season 1, his resignation as Chief of Staff in Season 6, and his death at the end of Season 7. The other infoboxes likewise contain spoilers. This doesn't necessarily mean that you have to scrap the idea. However, I do think you should to revise it so that it doesn't include spoilers. (Others may argue that this belongs on a fan website and that it's unencyclopedic. I don't know where I stand in that debate, but I'm not going to make an issue out of it here.)

I would say take Percy and Leo's deaths out, because for many of them, the reason will be "series ended". Their changes of occupation and marital status are spoilery, but less of a visceral emotional impact, less of a downer.

You're right about how other series' infoboxes have tons of spoilers, although I don't think that's necessarily right. Here's a few suggestions on how to eliminate spoilers (and some other overall suggestions):

  • With the exceptions of Sam, Will, Vinick, Santos, and a few others, most of the main characters are there for the entire series, so do we really need to show their first/last appearances? (This is debatable.)
  • The reason for the departure of the character is inevitably going to be a spoiler, so I strongly say that you should get rid of this.
  • "Created by" is not needed, I feel, since Aaron Sorkin basically created all of these (with the exception of the few characters that were created after he left the show).
  • "Portrayed by" is a necessary bit of information and should definitely be kept.
  • "Gender" is probably kind of obvious and is probably not needed (though no harm in keeping it).
  • Information about family may or may not be spoilers. For example, it's not a spoiler to say that Leo has a daughter named Mallory but it is a spoiler to say that he gets divorced in Season 1. Likewise, it's definitely a spoiler to say that C.J.'s spouse is Danny. This is a bit ambiguous and so I'm not sure what to do about it. (In the case of C.J., I'd get rid of that bit about Danny being her husband, since it happens after the series ends.)
  • "Occupation" can get a bit complicated. For example, in the case of the Leo article, we had a big issue about how to explain Leo's role in the series without any spoilers. What I finally did was to say that he "begins the series as White House Chief of Staff" and then explaining the rest of his occupations under a spoiler warning.

So, the only stuff I know we can keep for sure right now is "portrayed by" and "gender" (if we choose to keep the latter). I'm not sure what else we can add without adding spoilers. We should get some more opinions on this. --Hnsampat 23:13, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

I'd say first/last appearance aren't spoilers and should stay. The reason for last appearance would be either a spoiler or unnecessary and I agree on dropping that. I also agree Created by and gender are unnecessary, as I didn't even notice them when skimming the infoboxes.
What about placing spoilers below in the infobox for other spoilery info (marital/occupation) similar to the way it's in the body? TransUtopian 23:32, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Works for me. I notice you did Percy. I did Leo and CJ, removing gender (template says "if not obvious") and cause (my opinion) and adding <br><sup>'''spoilers below'''</sup> after the last="name of episode". Otherwise it appears after Age. I'm a shrug re: Created by. TransUtopian 13:08, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
