Talk:West Sussex Teachers Association

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WSTA, like all areas of the NUT, is being urged to take up the role of learning representative as a way of involving new members of the profession in the union. The idea is that members will take an interest in CPD (Continuing Professional Development) and in the very successful ICT (Information and Communication Technology) courses run by the union and see this as a new aspect of union work.

A part of this is a desire by some elements in the union to play down its trade union role. However events like the attempts of the government to cut the pay of teachers (TLRs) and the replacement of qualified teachers with low paid Teaching Assistants force the trade union role onto the union willy nilly :)

At the same time in the short period we have been pursuing the learning representative role we have involved new layers of previously inactive union members. To paraphrase Marks and Spencers (and Steve Sinnott) "This is not just training, this is NUT training."
