WERU-FM 89.9 is a community radio station operating in the town of East Orland, Maine that broadcasts at the FM frequency of 89.9 MHz from Blue Hill Mountain in the town of Blue Hill, Maine. It has been on the air since May 1, 1988 and has a broadcast power of 15,000 watts and also broadcasts at 102.9 MHz in Bangor with a 50 watt translator. As of July 2004 it is available streaming online and the programming guide is available at their website. In April 2006 they began providing podcasts of their spoken word programming.

From its inception WERU-FM has been a grassroots, nonprofit, noncommercial, volunteer-powered and listener-supported community radio service. Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary was the station's first benefactor. In 1997 the station moved to its current location on U.S. Route 1 in East Orland. Striving to be "a voice of many voices," WERU trains members of the community to be on-air programmers and behind-the-scenes producers. It provides access to the airwaves for individuals, musicians (local and beyond), nonprofit community organizations, and many others in the station's signal area. Music programming is very diverse and includes folk, americana, blues, rock, jazz and reggae. They also organize the Full Circle Fair, a two day fair celebrating community radio on the fourth full weekend of July at the Blue Hill Fairgrounds in Blue Hill, Maine.

WERU is a member of the National Federation of Community Broadcasters [1], the Maine Association of Broadcasters, World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters AMARC, Maine Association of Nonprofits, and is a founding member of the Grassroots Radio Coalition[2] .
