Wenlan Chia(賈雯蘭), designer of Twinkle by Wenlan. Born in Taipei. Moved to New York in 1991. Started a popular line Twinkle by Wenlan in 2000. With BA in Sociology and MA in Art History, She was never formally trained in fashion design. She often found her insipiration in literature, movies, and modern arts and contemporary arts. Her collection is known for its whimsical take on feminine dressing -- with a dash of the exotic, dose of pop culture and sense of humor. Twinkle knit designs are characterized by the use of traditional knitting patterns knit on oversized needles and using large gauge yarns. Chia's knitwear designs are sometimes featured in Interweave Knits magazine, and a line of her Twinkle yarns is being produced by Classic Elite. She has received recognition from the fashion industry, winning major awards and nominations including the Onward Kashiyama New Design Prize in Tokyo; the Competition of Young Fashion Designers in Paris, and a nomination for the Fashion Group International Rising Star Awards as well as for the Vogue Fashion Fund Award in New York. In 2005, she was selected as one of “Spring’s Leading Ladies” -- a group of five notable designers -- by Vogue magazine.
